It could be the case of a linear arrangement or double row arrangement.  The case of circular arrangement or rectangular arrangement is somewhat the same. In a linear arrangement, you have to place the people in a single line. In the case of double row arrangement, you have to form two rows where people may be facing each other.

Tips and Tricks

Keep in mind the following points while solving the questions of the Sitting arrangement to give accurate and quick answers.

    1. In the case of a linear arrangement, you must keep in consideration in the direction that they are facing. In case they are facing north direction, it will be exactly opposite to what their definition would be if they are facing south.
    2. In Double row, arrangement keeps in mind that the two rows could be either sitting facing each other or it could be a case where one row is behind the other.
One little mistake concerning the direction will change your entire arrangement and not just lead to wrong answers but also wastage of time.
    3. The conditions given could be direct or indirect in these kinds of questions. For example,
Direct information: X is sitting on the immediate right of Y.
Indirect information: A or B are not sitting immediately next to X.
  1. In the case of circular arrangement and rectangular arrangement, ensure whether persons are sitting facing the centre i.e. inwards or facing outwards.
If the people are sitting facing inwards then the left-hand side will be clockwise and right-hand side will be anticlockwise. But in the case where people are sitting facing outwards, then the left-hand side will be anticlockwise and right-hand side will be in clockwise.
  1. It is not necessary that after you solve the questions, you will be able to decode all positions and people on it. There could be a few circumstances where you are not sure or the question has left it unresolved that who among B and C will be at Position 2. In such cases, look for options that are either A or B or cannot be determined.
  2. Always try to determine the answer diagrammatically as it would make things clearer and easier to interpret. This would help you to avoid the confusion.

Pro tip

Don’t try to find the answer to each question separately. Try to solve the arrangement by fulfilling the conditions given in the main passage. Once you have done this, it will be a cakewalk to answer the questions that follow.
