  • Two brothers X and Y are walking home from school at the speed of 5 km/hr and 7 km/hr respectively. Calculate the distance between home and school if X arrives 1 hour late.

  • A 100 m long super Bus is running at the constant speed​​ of 50 km/h. How much time will it take to cross a flyover bridge of 1 km?

  • If the potted plants are placed at a distance of 2 m in the hallway and Susan walks at a speed of 6 km/hr, how many plats will Susan cross in 20 minutes?

  • A car travelling at the speed of 80 km/hr crosses the Driveway food plaza on the highway in 30​​ seconds and crosses a Statue there in 20 seconds. Find the length of Driveway food plaza?

  • At what speed should Alisha drive to cover the distance of 100 km in 3.5 hours?

  • Find the distance covered by Shweta in 7 hours if she walks at the speed of 7.5 km/hr and also took a total of 3 hours rest time in these 7 hours?

Shankar is going to temple and he is 30 min late if he walks at the speed of 5 km/hr and he reaches 30 minutes early if he walks at the speed of 8 km/hr. Calculate the distance to the temple.

 

 

ANSWERS WITH EXPLANATIONS

 

  • Speed = Distance/ time

20 = D/ 40

D = 40*20 = 800 km.

  • Speed = Distance/ time

190/3 = 1000/ time

63.3 = 1000/ time

Time = 1000/63.3​​ 

 ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​​​ = 15.7 hours

 ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​​​ = 16 hours (approx.)

 

  • Akshita’s speed = 200/24 = 8.3 km/hr

Hours taken = 1200/8.3

 ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​​​ = ​​ 144.5 hours = 144 hours approx

Walking hours in one​​ day = 24-12​​ = 12 hours

No. of days = 144/12 = 12 days

 

  • Let the distance between home and school be x km.

For X, Time = x/ 5

For Y, Time = x/7

x/5 – x/7​​ = 60/60

x = 17.5 km

 

  • Distance to be covered = 100 + 1000 = 1100 m. = 1100/1000 = 1.1 km

Speed = 50 km/hr.

Time taken = 1.1/ 50 =​​ 0.022 hours = 79.2 seconds

 

  •  ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​ ​​​​ Converting the speed in m/s​​ 

6 km/h = (6 * 5 * 60)/ 18 = 100 m/min

Number of plants in one minute = 100/ 2 = 50

Number of plants in 20 minutes = 50* 20 = 1000

 

  • Length of the Driveway food plaza ​​ = speed of car * extra time taken to cross the Driveway food plaza.

Converting 80 kmph in m/s =​​ 80* 5/18​​ =​​ 22.2​​ ​​ m/s

Extra time = 30-20 = 10 seconds

Length of the​​ Driveway food plaza​​ =​​ 22.2 * 10
